General Manager
Calling all scooperstars! We are on the search for a General Manager to ensure the smooth operations of our busy Kirikiriroa scoop shops.
The ideal candidate for the role comes from a hospitality background and will be able to handle the day-to-day running of both our Kirikiriroa locations, ensuring the successful management of staff, productivity, quality control and safety measures while being a great ambassador for the Duck Island brand and a positive role model for our front of house team.
We’re looking for a full-timer (30+ hours a week) who gets our brand and is excited to join the Duck Island whānau. This is primarily a Monday – Friday role, with a mix of days and nights and occasional weekend work. In return we can offer flexibility, a supportive working environment and of course – ice cream.

The primary responsibilities:
- Leading from the front and setting sweet standards for our awesome team of scoopers.
- Managing our Hamilton crew with support from our Head Office team.
- Rostering and hiring.
- Training and up-skilling staff.
- Handling day-to-day shop admin tasks, including banking and stock management.
- Maintaining excellent operational standards in areas of quality, service and cleanliness.
You are:
- A hospitality superstar with at least 2 years’ experience in the food or service industry and ideally but not necessarily, training, supervision, leadership or management experience.
- An enthusiastic team player with the integrity, energy and confidence to lead a decent-sized team.
- A cool-headed quick thinker with initiative and empathy who is comfortable providing direction, correction and feedback.
- Down to deliver awesome customer service in a fast-paced environment.
- Open to variety: this role will be about a 50 – 50 split between being present front of house and management + administration tasks.
- Ready and willing to step in and step up when needed.
